Jan-Yu Weng brings over 25 years of semiconductor and adjacent industry experience to our company. He’s led global teams in public, private, and start-up environments. His proven track record of scaling global teams, his customer focus, and his passion for developing people aligns perfectly with our company’s vision, making him the ideal leader to take us into the future.

Joe Monkowski

Founder, President and CTO

Dr. Joseph Monkowski has extensive experience in the semiconductor industry focused on providing process equipment and metrology solutions for next generation device manufacturing. Joe founded Pivotal Systems in 2003and has led the Company’s research and development activities as Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Pivotal, Monkowski was the SVP of Business Development for Advanced Energy Industries, where he led the company’s M&A strategy to expand its product portfolio and position the company as a market leader in the semiconductor subsystems space. Previously, he held senior executive positions at Pacific Scientific, Photon Dynamics and Lam Research, where he served as EVP and CTO. During his career, Monkowski led efforts to design and build a number of leading CVD and plasma etch systems, winning the R&D 100 award and multiple Semiconductor International Best Product awards. He has authored numerous patents and publications.

Derek Brodie

VP of Engineering

Derek Brodie brings more than 25 years of semiconductor experience. He led high performing worldwide product support teams at Applied Materials, supporting all Etch products. Derek has been at the helm of Pivotal’s engineering team since 2021.

ChunMing Zhou

VP of Sales & Marketing

Dr. ChunMing Zhou has 16 years of semiconductor industry experience spanning strategic marketing, product management and technology development. Dr. Zhou received a Bachelor of Science degrees in materials science and electrical engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China and a Ph.D. in materials engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is the lead author for over 20 patents and technical publications. Before joining, he was the director of product marketing in the Metal and Atomic Layer Deposition Products group at Applied Materials, Inc. Prior to that, he worked for PDF Solutions, View Inc., and Lam Research Inc. in engineering and management roles. His strong engineering background combined with marketing and sales skills support Pivotal’s ambitious growth and customer service goals.
